JOINT STATEMENT
BY THE UKRAINIAN PEACE COUNCIL,
INTERNATIONAL NGO
COUNCIL ON ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY,
AND THE UKRAINIAN FOREIGN POLICY ASSOCIATION
We, the Ukrainian Peace Council, the international non-governmental organization Council on Environmental Safety, and the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association, express our deep concern regarding the news about the war crime committed by russian terrorists in Ukraine – blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.
This act of terrorism has caused severe suffering for the people affected and has disrupted the ecological balance and biosphere over a wide area.
Tens of thousands of people have lost their homes and property, while also facing a lack of access to drinking water and electricity.
The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam was a deliberate act of vandalism perpetrated by russian invaders.
We appeal to the United Nations, the European Commission, and other global and regional organizations, which are committed to the future of Ukraine and Ukrainian nation’s destiny, and the environmental safety of the world, to raise their voices against genocide and ecocide being perpetrated by russia in Ukraine.
We demand tougher economic and political sanctions against the aggressor to put an end to its war crimes in Ukraine, preventing further loss of life and the continued sufferings of millions of people.
