Dear friends, colleagues and associates,

On January 10, 2024, Ukraine honored the memory of its outstanding son and historical figure, Leonid Kravchuk, who would have turned 90 on that day.

Under his chairmanship, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the Decree and Act of Independence of Ukraine on August 24, 1991.

As President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk signed the Minsk agreement, also known as the Belavezha Accords, on December 7-8, 1991, which formally declared the dissolution of the Soviet Union. During his term of office, Ukraine commenced cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

He signed the major EU-Ukraine Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which laid the foundation of Ukraine's European integration.

In his capacity as the Head of the Ukrainian Peace Council, Leonid Kravchuk, together with Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko, appealed to the signatories of the Budapest Memorandum to stop the aggressor before russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Peace Council is proud of its long-time leader, Leonid Kravchuk, and will continue to work in his good cause!
